Project Description: The Freedom Center’s location on the Ohio River, the natural barrier that separated slave states of the South from free states of the North, was central to the museum’s telling of the story of the struggle for freedom. The Freedom Center’s design is a significant departure from traditional museum design because of the lack of artifacts associated with the struggle for freedom. Preview was involved throughout the project to integrate code compliance strategies into the design solutions for a project that forms the focal point for the renovation of the city’s riverfront.

Project Description: The Center for the Arts is a space for creativity and collaboration in downtown Jackson. The Arts & Education Pavilion which houses non-profit arts and higher education organizations, features 41,000 sf of studio, classroom and administrative space on three floors. The Performing Arts Pavilion features a 525-seat theater and a spacious lobby and music center. Because the project was required to conform to new codes being adopted for the first time, Preview worked with the architect and local code enforcement agencies to address several design issues, particularly those associated with accessibility and multiple occupancies.

Project Description: The Computer History Museum chronicles the development of computing from the 1600’s to the present day. This newest phase of the museum continues the conversion of an existing two-story Silicon Valley office building into space that will house a new “Timeline” exhibit displaying the many computers from the museum’s extensive collection. Because of the complex circulation pattern of the exhibit, Preview’s review of the project required careful analysis of emergency egress paths. Preview also worked with the design team to assure that accessibility to exhibits and function spaces was provided for all museum visitors.

Project Description: The Performing Arts Center is a new multi-theater teaching and performance venue for both the college and public. It will have a performance hall with 650 fixed seats, a “black-box” theatre and intimate recital hall. The project also contains faculty offices, classrooms and rehearsal rooms, and uses many sustainable design measures including a “green roof.” Preview’s code analysis guided the design team from schematic design through permit approval by the State Fire Marshal and Division of the State Architect, carefully applying horizontal exiting concepts to a complex mixed-use plan.
