Project Description: After 22 years of construction, the Ohio Statehouse was completed in 1861, and is one of the oldest working statehouses in the United States. In the early 1990’s, the building, along with the Senate Building, underwent a major restoration, and an atrium connecting the two buildings was constructed. Preview developed the strategic approach for bringing the buildings into compliance with current codes. To provide the necessary life safety and accessible features while restoring the building’s interior to its original grandeur required approval from state agencies, including the Governor's office, and an appeal of the state building code.

Project Description: An historic high-rise building provided the framework for Autodesk’s new product demonstration and orientation facility. Because of the increased occupant loads from the new assembly spaces, finding adequate means of egress became a significant code challenge. Preview’s review of the project resulted in the creative application of the horizontal exit concept to allow use of the existing exiting system.

Project Description: Shillito's Department Store opened in 1878 as the largest department store in the country under one roof. Featuring a 6-story atrium with a 60-ft diameter glass dome, the building was a downtown show place. Changes in the retail climate eventually left this historic building empty. In the late 1990’s Towne Properties converted the structure into a mixed use- business and loft apartment facility, conserving an important part of the urban fabric. Preview worked with the design team to address appeals required to utilize the existing structure, including restoring the abandoned atrium and integrating existing systems into the atrium design.

Project Description: The Textile Museum is one of the world's foremost specialized art museums with emphasis on the artistic merits and cultural importance of the world’s textiles. The museum receives 25,000 to 35,000 visitors each year from around the world. As part of the strategic planning for the existing museum, Preview provided a comprehensive review of the building code and life safety issues within the buildings. Originally comprised of two neighboring residences, elements of egress, separation and methods to mitigate the issues within the structures were the focus of Preview’s involvement.
